Certified Incident Responder - Examination 

 

 

The Exam

The PagerDuty Certified Incident Responder examination is intended for individuals who have the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively demonstrate an overall understanding of the Incident Command System and Incident Response Process. PagerDuty University at Summit attendees will receive a link and code that gives them 30 days to take the certification exam and receive a badge and certificate. After Summit, the courses and certification will have an associated fee. 

Becoming a certified Incident Responder is a recommended, optional step toward gaining knowledge and best practices to better the Incident Response process in organizations.

 

Abilities Validated by the Certification

  • Build a foundation for implementing an Incident Command System at your organization 
  • Describe the role of an Incident Commander and understand how to build that into your incident response process
  • Understand how to classify a major incident and build an appropriate response process
  • Understand how to scale the Incident Command System up or down as necessary for your teams
  • Map ICS roles to real responders in your organization as well as describe considerations when taking on multiple roles
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders during major incidents
  • Assign roles and responsibilities needed in completing a postmortem review 
  • Recognize and reduce biases and patterns that make a working culture susceptible to blame 
  • Understand how to enact a formalized postmortem process at your organization, along with associated best practices

 

Recommended Knowledge and Experience

  • We recommend candidates have taken the Incident Command System 101, Incident Command System 201 and the Postmortems workshop hosted by PagerDuty University during Summit prior to the examination
  • Candidates should have a basic understanding of the Incident Command System and best practices related to building out and optimizing the Incident Response Process in an organization
