Certified Incident Responder - Examination 

 

 

The Exam

 

The PagerDuty Certified Incident Responder examination is intended for individuals who have the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively demonstrate an overall understanding of the Incident Command System and Incident Response Process. The exam can be taken at PagerDuty’s Summit 2020 or from the comfort and convenience of a home or office location within 30 days of the completion of Summit.

Becoming a certified Incident Responder is a recommended, optional step toward gaining knowledge and best practices to better the Incident Response process in organizations.

 

Abilities Validated by the Certification

  • Build a foundation for implementing an Incident Command System at your organization 
  • Describe the role of an Incident Commander and understand how to build that into your incident response process
  • Understand how to classify a major incident and build an appropriate response process
  • Understand how to scale the Incident Command System up or down as necessary for your teams
  • Map ICS roles to real responders in your organization as well as describe considerations when taking on multiple roles
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders during major incidents
  • Assign roles and responsibilities needed in completing a postmortem review 
  • Recognize and reduce biases and patterns that make a working culture susceptible to blame 
  • Understand how to enact a formalized postmortem process at your organization, along with associated best practices

Recommended Knowledge and Experience

  • We recommend candidates have taken the Incident Command System 101, Incident Command System 201 and the Postmortems workshop hosted by PagerDuty University or have taken Managing Incident Response for Teams or Mitigating Incident Response full-day courses prior to the examination
  • Candidates should have a basic understanding of the Incident Command System and best practices related to building out and optimizing the Incident Response Process in an organization

There is no better preparation than hands-on experience. There are many relevant PagerDuty University Training courses and other resources to assist you with acquiring additional knowledge and skills to prepare for certification.
